Introduction
The applied medical radiation sciences encompass a variety of disciplines, including radiological technology, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine technology. Because the world of medical radiation science is evolving vibrantly, there is a strong need for quality education and research in radiological sciences and protection.
The Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences and the Institute of Radiological Science at the Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology maintain a strong commitment to new medical imaging technologies. We provide innovative programs blending an interdisciplinary core curriculum and ongoing clinical experience in radiological sciences. The Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences was launched in 1996 for professional education and training in medical imaging and radiological sciences. The 4-year bachelor’s program in the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences should prepare undergraduate students to apply for certification through the Taiwanese Registry of Radiological Technologists, since this certification is necessary for radiology technician working in hospitals, clinics and medical laboratories. Following degree completion, students are also eligible to write the registry exam of radiation protection technologists and medical physicists. The Institute of Radiological Science established in 2008 offers opportunities to pursue advanced technology skills and knowledge in medical radiation sciences. The 2-year master’s program in the Institute of Radiological Science provides graduate students the opportunity to broaden their professional knowledge and interest as well as to equip themselves for participation in a rapidly changing medical radiation science environment. Approximately 205 undergraduate and 20 graduate students are currently enrolled.
